Background
Diagnosing celiac disease (CeD) poses significant challenges for healthcare professionals (HCPs) due to its diverse symptoms that often overlap with other gastrointestinal disorders. This leads to prolonged diagnosis times and impaired patient quality of life.
Aim
Our goal was to create an online platform to empower patients to get tested and raise awareness among HCPs to shorten the time to diagnosis of celiac disease.
Materials and Methods
Developed by Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS), the website celiac insider was launched in English in November 2022. The site was promoted through SEM, social media and influencer campaigns. The French and German versions were released in May 2024, with Italian and Spanish versions launched in October 2025.
Results*
Celiac insider provides essential evidence-based resources to facilitate accurate diagnosis and support patients. It includes downloadable tools such as a food diary, symptom tracker, and brochures tailored for both audiences.
Since the introduction of the multilingual versions of the website, the website has received more than 1,000,000 unique visits from more than 150 countries with an average visit time of 1 minute 37 seconds and 1:6 repeated visitors. As of May 2024, the French and German versions have received 400,000 unique visits, respectively. The Italian and Spanish versions have received over 200,000 unique visitors (Italian site) and over 53,000 unique visitors (Spanish site) since their launch in October 2025. With the addition of new language versions, we aim to broaden accessibility and increase reach among patients and HCP’s across diverse geographic regions.
Conclusions
Celiac insider demonstrates that a multilingual digital platform can effectively engage a global audience and disseminate evidence-based information on CeD. Such tools may support earlier recognition and testing, potentially contributing to a reduced diagnostic delay.
